Reverse discrimination, I think Not.

Look around at any right winged nationalist white blogs and one sees the same theme echoed: America is unfriendly to whites. That's strange because it seems to me that even in this day and age there are still a lot of privileged white people in America. However, according to these trailer park right wingers, equality and egalitarianism in America is now cramping the white style of life (well at least for some whites).

If it were just these sidelined nuts proclaiming this one might not worry. However, when viewing these same dubious arguments put forth by various pundits on stations like Fox then it is time to get worried.

Remember the good ole days when all some people had to do was show up to get a good job and have a nice life? Now they have to do that book learnin' stuff and actually be qualified (well from what I've seen halfway qualified) to actually be successful. Oh, dear me, how could this have happened?

A good example of these types of sentiments are these that I found on this site (http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread595558/pg1)site about how Affirmative Action is just a tactic for black people to get over and get welfare too. Never mind that many companies in the past (and present) routinely discriminated against black people and so the system was set in place to prevent these acts from occurring.

Meanwhile some European Americans continue to claim that they are getting the shaft whenever a person of color gets a good position or reaches a position of power. These inaccurate and baseless arguments are untrue and quite simply tired. So it is now time to once and for all, deconstruct and expose the real spirit behind these ideas.

On the forum: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread595558/pg1 there seems to be plenty of disgruntled lunatics. One blogger posted an excerpt from an article though they fail to name the source about so called "reverse discrimination" in Academia. Here is the excerpt that was posted:

A decade ago, activist Ron Unz conducted a study of the ethnic and religious composition of the student body at Harvard.

Blacks and Hispanics, Unz found, were then being admitted to his alma mater in numbers approaching their share of the population.

And who were the most underrepresented Americans at Harvard?

White Christians and ethnic Catholics. Though two-thirds of the U.S. population

Now this is the reply to this post:

Is anyone surprised by these numbers?
I have a question for ATS members. At what point, does this stop being "affirmative action", and become discrimination?
I'll give you my opinion. this is outright discrimination, no questions asked.
If you are a white Christian conservative, good luck getting your son or daughter into a top notch college, and you'll need a miracle to get them a scholarship, regardless of whether they are highly qualified or not.

So here are the dubious arguments that these sorry excuses for human beings(RushWhere'sMy PrescriptionPillsLimbaugh, SeanTrailerParkHannity, GlenShitforBrainsBeck, and BillMyCockIs
OnlyAbout1InchesBigO'Reilly, and their KluKluxKlan followers) like to put forth.

A. Why are they just talking about Harvard. There are thousands of colleges around the United states. And having a more diverse student population is not a negative but I think probably a plus. Secondly the facts are wrong because the majority of students at Harvard are still mostly Caucasian but there are more Asian/Pacific Islanders going there (17%) and Black students are (9%). These are hardly takeover numbers and simply reflects the fact that more diverse people can gain admittance there.

Personally I wasn't too keen on going to Harvard but Harvard is some what of an elitist school so really class and money play more of a role on who will go than ethnic background. These guys on the blog are blaming minorities but might never have gotten in because the lack of wealth, money and private school educational opportunities it would take to get there. You can't just blame minorities.

2. Americans are not WASPS. What if a lot of Russians were going to Harvard? Russians are Caucasians but there would still be cultural differences between a Russian born student and a Caucasian American Student. Or even a French Student and an American Student. However hopefully, these cultural differences could be bridged by the commonalities found in every person. Underneath the cultural differences, all God loving, good people have something in common. So how would it be any different if the person is Black, Latino, Asian or Native American? Why do they have a problem if a person of color works hard and gains entry into the school. This is America, equal opportunity for all. That's how the system works.

1. Reverse discrimination

There is no such thing as reverse discrimination. "Reverse Discrimination" really stands for equality. Now that Black people and other minorities in America have their equal rights rankles some of these White racists that believe that people of color should not have equal access. In their racist mind a person of color can be just as smart or talented as a person of a White background.  This is a fallacy  People of color can be just as talented and our goal is not to takeover or try to implement some kind of "reverse discrimination" but simply to have an equal opportunity and be included. Instead of blaming minorities, women or whomever the right winged ultra conservatives need to let go of hate, find God (really) and work on being better people themselves instead of hating people of color.

On "White Guilt"
Personally, no one should feel guilty for something that happened 160 years ago before they were born. People should feel guilty for the things they are doing now if they are doing something wrong. This whole argument of white guilt makes it seem as if black people have done nothing to push forward and fight for their rights. Black people have. There was no guilt involved but just the powers holding an unjust system in place seeing that they can't keep people down. I have met a lot of white people in my life (hey I live in America) but I have never met a white person who did anything for a black person because of guilt. Many black and white people help each other and it is out of a sense of justice and fairness but not because of guilt. Believing in God, being a good person and doing good things has nothing to do with guilt or color but just being a person that is good and fair and loving all different kinds of people.

The other argument is that "white people have to pay for slavery, something that benefited their ancestors but something they did not participate in."

Here is my response: no one is paying for something that happened 160 years ago. Secondly, many black people are tax paying citizens. As citizens who pay their taxes we should enjoy the same opportunities as someone else. The opportunity should be granted for us to flourish just like anyone else. However, the Jim Crow era and the racial discrimination (that many people, though by no means all) helped support and took active part in ] only just ended in the late sixties. So that there has been a fight by many different kinds of people to make the system more equal and have the country more unified. Americans whether white, black, brown, yellow or red are working together to make for a more peaceful, unified nation and that is a good thing. It has nothing to do with paying for slavery but amending the wrongs that were done in the past and making things more unified and equal.

Quite frankly, reverse discrimination does not really exist for the most part. It's very difficult to discriminate against the majority. Giving equal opportunities to everybody is not reverse discrimination and there is enough growth possible for everyone to get a viable chance if only the system were changed for the better. Some of these conservative radicals seem to believe that giving equality to people of color is taking something away from people in the majority population in America. I disagree. The inclusion of black people, women, Latinos, Asians and Native Americans have made the U.S. a stronger, richer society and America has seen more growth and unity as a result.

In fact, I posit the theory that if slavery had never taken place and a wage system had been established early to pay both white and black people than America would have been a stronger, richer, and more erudite nation a lot faster and we would have been better off long ago. Therefore it is not taking away from someone but actually adding something of value and contributing. Black people and black culture as well as Latinos, Asians, and Native Americans have contributed much richness to America just as European Americans have. These various contributions make for a rich amalgamation that is unique and gives strength, richness and   a deeper character to the country.

America has shown the wonderful interactions that can come about in embracing our diversity and diverse backgrounds. That even though initially many people came from different countries, we were able to blend together to become a strong unified one.

Cries about "so called reverse discrimination is about one thing only, maintaining some white people who are racist oppressing minorities at any cost.

2.Another argument that these fascist extremists like to put forth is that if a white person fails/or is not automatically rich then blame a minority.

Black people, Latinos and Asians are not taking anything from European Americans. People of color have been in the U.S. just as long as many European Americans (and the Native Americans were the first inhabitants of this country). People of color have worked and still work hard along side with Caucasion  Americans to build this country and make this country great. This to despite being denied education, social, economic and cultural advantages. Whether or not anyone succeeds depends on their education, drive and the opportunities allowed them but they cannot blame another group for not succeeding, it is due to their hard work and not because other people have finally been given their equality.
I guess however for them that would be too hard. It is much easier to sit around and blame minorities for your problems than to work hard, get educated and make it on your own.

In my opinion, there is no place for these people in American society just like there was no place for the Nazis in Germany.

The bottom line is that in a land of opportunities, the truly talented need not to worry. A smart and knowledgeable person is never afraid of a competing. Also the system is being rigged more and more these days but not by minorities. Minorities shouldn't be the scapegoats for a system that is controlled by ever more corrupt politicians and greedy rich people. Instead of blaming people of color who have most likely done nothing to them they need to protest against a system of political corruption that ignores the middle and poor classes in favor of giving breaks to the rich. This is the real problem in much of America these days.

Whether these extremists like it or not Black, Latino and Asian people have gotten their rights and in my view America is richer and stronger for it. Many of these extremists carry a 19th century mentality in a 21st century world. No nostalgia should be given to the gross mistakes of the past. With the election of the 1st black president its time to embrace a happier and more unified present and future. As a human race we can prove ourselves to be above being discriminatory and oppressive and learn to see our commonalities and look past differences in order to see at the end of the day we are all God's children sharing the planet and we should do so in peace and harmony, not in hatred and divisiveness.

Black, White, Brown, Yellow, and Red, those of us who value love and unity must remain vigilant and rebuke the forces of regression  that are ever present. The best revenge is to continue to work smart and hard and to have high standards of excellence. The best recipe to bring down these racists, uh, I mean so called ultra conservatives, is to just be a better, smarter, more successful and more highly evolved person. And given the low level of achievement many of them have already set, this should not be too hard.
